Radioprotective effect and other biological benefits associated with flavonoids

چکیده
Ionizing radiation has the potential to cause extensive damage to living organisms. It can directly act on DNA, proteins and lipids, resulting in ionizing excitation and chemical bond cleavage, which can lead to molecular and cellular damage. Ionizing radiation can hydrolyze water molecules in the body, resulting in increased numbers of free radicals with strong oxidation ability. This process indirectly leads to tissue degeneration and necrosis, which can possibly result in cancer. In this paper, the intervention mechanism of flavonoids on ionizing radiation was analyzed. It has been revealed that the intervention mechanism associated with flavonoids may offer protective properties for DNA, prevent scavenging free radicals, and protect against auto-immune damage. In addition, this invention mechanism can protect the hematopoietic system and reduce inflammation

Evaluation of the radioprotective effects of propolis and flavonoids in gamma-irradiated mice: the alkaline comet assay study.
The radioprotective effects of water-soluble derivate of propolis (WSDP) collected in Croatia, and single flavonoids, caffeic acid, chrysin and naringin in the whole-body irradiated CBA mice were investigated. Irradiation was performed using a gamma-ray source ((60)Co), and absorbed doses were 4 and 9 Gy. The efficiency of test components was evaluated when given intraperitoneally (i.p.) at dos...

Background: Radioprotective effect of famotidine was previously shown on radiation induced micronuclei and chromosomal aberrations in human peripheral lymphocytes and mouse bone marrow cells however, its radioprotective property has never been studied in mouse spermatogenesis. It was also shown that vitamin C as an antioxidant also exert its radioprotective effect on many biological s...

Background: Alpinia galanga L. belonging to the family Zingiberaceae is widely grown in the state of Kerala, India. They are effective antioxidant and free radical scavenger under both in vitro and in vivo condition. The efficacy of the isolated flavonoids in conferring protection from radiation induced damages to genomic DNA was studied. Materials and Methods: The bioflavonoids, galangin and k...

The modulation of longevity genes and aging-associated signaling pathways using pharmacological agents is one of the potential ways to prolong the lifespan and increase the vitality of an organism. Phytochemicals flavonoids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have a large potential as geroprotectors. The goal of the present study was to investigate the effects of long-term and short-term ...
متن کاملStudying the Expression Pattern of aox2 and pal2 Genes Associated with the Production of Antioxidants and Flavonoids in Yarrow Plant Following Salicylic Acid Treatment
The various medicinal functions of Yarrow have made it an important medicinal plant in medicine. Also, yarrow is a rich source of antioxidants and flavonoids that protect plants from the harmful effects of active oxygen species. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of salicylic acid treatment on the expression pattern of two genes (aox2 and pal2) involved in the production of ant...
